IMPROVING YOUTH FITNESS
The SportXcel Youth Fitness Foundation funds and operates several options for schools and communities to address myriad challenges and leverage opportunities.
1. Resources – On-site fitness programs and all associated sporting equipment for students in participating schools. And, children are trained at a cost of less than $35 per child, per year.
2. Professional Expertise – A research-based fitness program developed in conjunction with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and Train the Trainer programs for PE teachers to support continuing education in the science of fitness.
3. Community Fitness Clinics – Community-based clinics designed to demonstrate and reinforce the principles of fitness taught in the school-based programs.
4. Sports Performance Training Scholarships – High-potential athletes are identified for scholarships, providing an otherwise unavailable opportunity for more advanced training in sports performance.

SportXcel Youth Fitness Foundation School Training is an 8-week, on-site program for students divided into four, two-week modules that focus on:
Though designed for an eight-week program, modules can be modified to six weeks to accommodate a school’s instructional calendar. Instruction is done jointly by school staff and SportXcel staff, all of whom are certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
All participants are baseline tested prior to the start of this training program using metrics established by Fitnessgram/Activitygram and the President’s Council on Physical Fitness. Participants undergo follow-up testing to measure changes in fitness performance at the end of program.

Train the Trainer programs are designed primarily for on-site, intensive training of Physical Education instructors. The program begins at the professional-grade sports performance facility, with a two-hour teacher in-service orientation. The in-service provides an overview of the school training program, the underlying physiological concepts and an applied demonstration of the various techniques and methods used in the youth fitness regimen.
Following the in-service orientations, the Train the Trainer program moves to the participating school with an intensive, eight-week training program. A NASM-certified SportXcel program instructor is assigned to each participating school and works directly with teachers and students to ensure correct implementation of training. Initially leading all class-based instruction, the SportXcel instructor gradually turns the program over to the PE teachers as they demonstrate mastery of program content. The SportXcel instructor will remain on site for the full eight weeks to monitor and support the program administration. Each teacher is provided with a manual with all exercises, concepts, and progressions.
Knowledge and experience are important. But, most schools need – and most budgets are stretched by – the bats, balls, ropes and other equipment needed to complete a program. The SportXcel Youth Fitness Foundation provides each participating school with professional grade training equipment for use during the SportXcel School Training Program
That equipment is then donated for continued use throughout the school year. Each school receives:
Equipment is part of the program and service provided. no purchase is required on the part of the school.
Laughing. Learning. And, promoting fitness that improves health across an entire community. That’s what the SportXcel Community Fitness Clinics are about. The clinics are held statewide on a quarterly basis and are extensions of the same programs held at the SportXcel main site. Careful supervision and professional instruction build skills in sprint speeds, lateral quickness and lower-body fitness that build young bodies, minds and confidence.
Beyond the training and health benefits of the community fitness clinics, the SportXcel Youth Foundation provides scholarships to stand-out participants. The scholarships grant free SportXcel facility training to youth who demonstrate drive, determination and the desire to excel in fitness training.
Testimonials
Every one of our 600 middle school students has participated in the SportXcel Fitness Program. I have no doubt this program has elevated the general fitness and conditioning levels of the vast majority of our kids. While we're pleased to see improvements in our Fitnessgram performance testing, it's equally exciting to see how engaged the children become in the Sportxcel routines. I sense, at times, the kids don't fully appreciate they're working out. I fully endorse the program and believe many would benefit from its expansion.

I have had the opportunity to work with SportXcel and their instructors over the past two school years. The SportXcel Youth Fitness Foundation program is unique in its ability to take a group of 60+ junior high students and keep them not only engaged, but physically active throughout the class period. I have students who typically refrain from engaging in daily classroom activities that seem to work harder whenever we conduct the SportXcel training program.
- Danielle Costello, Sierra Middle School, Douglas County, Colorado
I have been doing the SportXcel Training Program for eight months and just got my Fitnessgram scores for the year. My teachers said I had the best improvement score in the entire class. I improved my pacer run from 22 laps to 35 laps, my curl-ups from 12 to 29 and my arm-hang from 5 seconds to 10 seconds. I know I improved so much because I worked with the SportXcel program and also kept doing exercises at home like the trainers told me to do. I love SportXcel and can’t wait for them to come back to my school next year.
