DENVER - Call it the "Shaq" workout. SportXcel is designed for pro athletes, now it's making its way to Denver Public Schools.
Not only does it promote wellness, administrators say the program is proven to boost academic performance.
"The gains we've seen have been off the charts. They've really stepped up to the challenge," said Jamie Shalls, physical education teacher at Bryant Webster School. "A lot of the SportXcel trainers have worked with professional athletes in the past. In particular, the Phoenix Suns and Shaquille O'Neal."

Exhibit A in Dr. Craig Keyes’ argument that physical fitness impacts children’s academic performance as much as their health is Aurora West College Preparatory Academy.
Keyes, a physician and former CEO of United HealthCare, is also president of the board of directors of SportXcel Youth Fitness Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing low-cost, high-return wellness education and fitness training in schools.
